Claudia Chandler was born on April 21, 1942 to Otha Childress and Theresa Booker Childress in Cumberland, Virginia.
At the age of 8, Claudia, her parents and siblings moved to New York where she began her education at Riverhead School District.
In her earlier years she was the proud mother of six children that she loved dearly. She worked many years at the Eastport and Center Moriches Packing Corporation and finished her working career at the Grumman Air Space Facility in New York.
In her later years she met Willie Chandler and they were married in 1978. Once again she became a proud mother another child from this union.
Claudia loved singing and praising her God, cooking and being with her family.
In 1995 Claudia and her family moved to Cumberland, VA where she joined the Rocky Mount Baptist Church and served as the president of the Pastors Aide Ministry and Choir Ministry. She touched many people's lives and was special to many.
On Sunday, May 4, 2014, Claudia departed this life in Richmond, VA. She was preceded in death by her parents; brothers, Robert Childress, Raymond Childress; mother-in-law, Mary Elizabeth Johnson; sister-in-law, Vera Morris; brother-in-law, Frank Johnson.
She will truly be missed by: her husband, Willie Chandler; children, Dallas Johnson (Denise), Claudia Torres (Wilfredo), Dorothy Wright (Ernest), Cora Sargent (Malcolm), Candy Dozier (Robert), Tameka Liggon (Omar) and step daughter, Vera Chandler; twenty-two grandchildren; twenty-two great-grandchildren; three sisters: Doris Trent, Melanie Carter, Aurora Robertson; four sisters-in-law, Barbara Johnson (Herman), Mary Johnson, Shirley Johnson and Cornelius Childress; two, brothers-in-law, Robert Johnson (Jessie), Stanley Johnson; father-in-Law, Douglass Johnson (Lottie) and a host of nieces, nephews, cousins and friends.
