James Ernest Foster, son of the late Monroe and Virginia Brown Foster was born February 14, 1938 in Cumberland County, Virginia.
He received his education at Luther P. Jackson High School in Cumberland County, Virginia. He joined Mt. Olive Baptist Church at an early age.
James later moved to Philadelphia, Pa. He worked for the Toddle House for twenty years as a chef. He then left there and found employment with Kraft Food for five years. He later moved to Atlantic City to take on a chief chef position for the Resort Casino. He loved to cook and entertain family and friends. He worked for the Resort for twenty five years until his health began to fail.
He moved back to his hometown in Cumberland County, Virginia where he resided with his sister, Willie Sue Poole (Alfred) there he got to visit with family and many friends until his health began to deteriorate. After returning to Virginia, he reunited with Mt. Olive Baptist Church until his health, failed and he could no longer attend.
James quietly and peacefully departed this life on April 7, 2014 at the Amelia Nursing Home in Amelia, Virginia. He was preceded in death by his son, James, Jr.
He leaves to cherish his memory three daughters, Nadine Foster, Doren Tucker and Stacy Godwin (Davey); one granddaughter, Aisha Tucker; three sisters, Lottie Davenport (William); Willie Sue Poole (Alfred); Mary Allen (Joseph, Sr.); five aunts, Dorothy Foster, Delphine Dabney, Alice Gregory, Betty Brown, Corine James; two uncles, Elmo Brown (Lou), Royal Brown (Andrea) and a host of nieces, nephews, cousins and friends.
