Obituary of Robert Lee Mayo

Robert Mayo, son of the late Alex and Otelia Mayo, was born on March 14, 1919 in Cumberland, Virginia. After attending school in Cumberland County, Virginia, he enlisted in the United States Army and serving honorably as Sargent from 1941 to 1943. Robert (Bob) relocated to Rutherford, New Jersey. He worked as a motorman for the New York City Transit Authority, retiring after 36 years. Robert was a quiet man who had many hobbies; mechanic, repairing radios, and a handy man in Rutherford, NJ and never charged anyone for anything. After retirement, he and his wife returned to Virginia, making Little Zion Baptist Church their home of worship. He touched many lives and will be missed by his family and friends. Bob departed this life on Wednesday, April 2nd 2014 at Memorial Regional Hospital in Mechanicsville, Virginia. He leaves to mourn a devoted wife of 69 years, Carol Drew, loving daughter, Cynthia Mayo, and a loving granddaughter, Michelle Sweeney, and a host of relatives and friends.
