Obituary of Rev. Lillie Tyler

Rev. Lillie Hall Tyler, daughter of the late Spencer Taylor and Cora Langhorne Taylor, was born December 5, 1915 in Powhatan County, Virginia. She was one of nine children.
As a child, Rev. Tyler attended Ballsville School and was a member of Mt. Pero Baptist Church.
At a young age, she moved to New York to seek employment, where she married and lived. Later she relocated to New Jersey and worked at Western Electric.
While in New Jersey in 1961 she became an ordained minister in the Apostolic faith. When she returned to Powhatan in 1975, she established New Jerusalem Holy Temple. She travelled around the state with speaking engagement will all denominations.
She continued to work in Charlottesville and Richmond after her return to Virginia. When she retired in 1987, Rev. Tyler devoted her life to the church, farm and baby calves. She continued working on the farm until she was 96 years old when her health began to fail.
During the last 2 years of her life, Rev. Tyler was cared for by her devoted caretakers, Jennie Trent and Kathleen Hubbard.
Rev Tyler was predeceased by her parents, Spencer and Cora Taylor and eight brothers and sisters, Maggie, Lucy, Carrie, Willie, Sam, Robert, Martha Ann and Cora Lee. She was also predeceased by the children from the union of Spencer Taylor and Annie Harris -- Pearl, Gladys, Annie, Mitchell, Clayton, Mary, Peyton and Ironwood.
She leaves to mourn a beloved and devoted nephew, Ernest Hobson and his wife, Pamela Hobson; a niece, Delores Marshall; great-nephews, Colby and Spencer Hobson; great-nieces; great-great nephews; great-great nieces; cousins and other relatives and friends
