The Lord is my Shepherd; I shall not want." Lillian Adline Sims Shelton departed this life Wednesday, March 26, 2014, in Charlotte, North Carolina. She was the sole surviving child of the late Nannie and Turner Sims. Her brothers, Howard, Gary, Solomon and Aaron, and her sisters, Myrtle, Emma, Sarah, and Martha, preceded her in death. Lillian was born in Cumberland, Virginia on November 10, 1910, and attended school in Cumberland. At an early age she accepted Christ as her personal Savior and joined the Tearwallet Baptist Church where her membership remained. She was married to Edwin T. Shelton, who preceded her in death. Her son, Edwin Shelton, Jr., preceded her in death, also. They made their home in Hempstead, New York. Lillian returned to Cumberland in the 1970s to live. She was employed with Cumberland County Public Schools as an elementary school instructional assistant. She was actively involved in her church, and served as an usher and a Sunday school teacher for many years. Lillian was an active citizen who was involved in the school and in the community. She had a special attraction for children and opened her home to many of them. Lillian leaves to cherish her memory: a devoted daughter, Andreal Shelton, of Charlotte, NC; a sister-in-law, Neater Sims, of Cumberland, VA; a special friend, Eunice Whitehurst, of Farmville, VA; and a host of relatives and friends.
