Geraldine Jenkins Jefferson was born on December 22, 1921 in Philadelphia, PA to the late William Thomas Jenkins.
At two years of age, Geraldine moved to Virginia; making it her home. Later in life she met and married the late Carl Franklin Jefferson, Sr. and from this union four children were born. She joined New Hope Baptist Church, where her membership remained.
Geraldine was affectionately known as "Gerry" or Gerald" to her friends and as "Grandma", "Old Lady" and "Chicken Grandma" to the grandchildren; which was the love of her life.
Geraldine was employed in the factory and domestic fields for many years. She loved the outdoors, her chickens, flowers, and planting her gardens.
In her elder years and could no longer do outside chores, she returned to her passion which was drawing. For several hours at a time, she would draw and drink coffee. Gerald had a love for music; most of all Tina Turner, "What's Love Got to Do With It."
Geraldine departed this life on January 20, 2014 at Johnston Willis Hospital. She was preceded in death by father, husband and two sons, Walter and Thomas Jefferson, and long devoted family pet, Pepper.
She leaves to cherish her memories: one son, Carl, Jr. (Alice); one daughter, Verna Mahan; nine grandchildren, one she reared as her own, Roger Jefferson (Gwen); eighteen great-grandchildren; two great-great grandchildren; nieces, nephews, cousins; two sisters-in-law, Carrie Cartwright and Leona Periera along with other relatives and friends, three devoted, Evelyn Robinson, Evelyn Hargrove, Dorothy Ennis .
