Please share a memory of Mary to include in a keepsake book for family and friends.
Deacon Emeritus Mary Virginia Goode, entered into the Golden Gates on November 28, 2013 at 5:27PM at home, surrounded by her family. She was the daughter of the late Ruth Belle Crump. She was raised by her aunt and uncle, Deacon John and Mary Crump when her mother went to work in Long Island, New York. She was preceded in death by her husband of 54 years, Deacon Elijah Goode, Sr., sons, Ernest Crump, and Elijah Goode, Jr., and great-grandson Aaron Isaiah Harris. She was baptized and joined Center Union Baptist Church in Cumberland at an early age. She attended the Clark Public Schools in Sunnyside. She later joined First Antioch Baptist Church with her husband. She loved First Antioch and served with much dedication in many ministries, such as financial secretary, Superintendent of Sunday school, sexton, hospitality, choir member, Usher, Deaconess and Deacon. She was a faithful member until her health began to fail. She loved being at church, hearing the preached word and fellowship. Her favorite scripture was the 23rd Psalm, "The Lord is my Shepherd." In her home and community, she was lovingly called by the young and some older, Bom Bom or Ms. Virginia. She was a member of the Home Community Aid Club for over 40 years. She was known as the caregiver of the community, sitting/visiting or cleaning (didn't mind getting her hands dirty), taking them to appointments/grocery shopping in the gray pickup truck. She was even considered to be a chauffeur, taking her friends to work during the week. She loved being a homemaker/farmer/gardener with her husband. To know her was to love her. She leaves to cherish her loving memories, daughter and caregiver, Pinky Funn (Aubrey), sons, Douglas Goode, Sr. (LaVerne), and Raymond Goode. Six grandchildren, Charmaine Taylor (William), Samantha Goode-Persaud, Melissa Harris (Tony), Douglas Goode, Jr. (Marissa), Jamie, and Jason Goode; seven great-grandchildren, Ja'Nae, Lundyn, Jordan, Joy, Jaeda, Tony II, Paris, and Morgan; and one great-great grandson Lorenzo; sisters, Lottie Goff and Irene Bailey (William) and brother, William Hatcher (Deborah); a host of nieces, nephews, and cousins; Adopted children, Jerretta Hatcher, Geraldine Woodson, Fannie Snead, Shirley Graves, and Jackie West (Tyrone); Adopted granddaughter, Kesha Berry.
