Obituary of Mary Elizabeth Scruggs

Mary E. Scruggs, daughter of the late Charlie and Virgie Miles Jackson was born March 1, 1929 in Powhatan, Virginia. She attended Pine Hill School in Powhatan, Virginia. At an early age she was baptized at Mt. Zion Baptist Church, Powhatan, Virginia. Later in life, Mary met and married Willie Scruggs, Sr. They made Powhatan, their home where they lived with their children. Mary worked for several families in the domestic and child care fields for many years. She loved sewing, cooking, fishing, and being with family. On October 11, 2013 Mary departed this life at St. Francis Hospital in Midlothian, Virginia. She was preceded in death by her husband, Willie Scruggs, Sr.; one son, Willie Scruggs, Jr.; six brothers, including her twin Joseph and six sisters. She leaves to cherish her memories; three sons, MacDonald Jackson, Geroy Taylor (Linda), and one devoted, Kenneth Scruggs (Barbara); one daughter, Mary Howell (Bruce); six grandchildren, Terrance, Michael, Keshon, Kenneth, Jr., Sharika and Tearria; twelve great grandchildren; three brothers, Lawrence Jackson (Diane), William Jackson, and Arthur Jackson; four sisters, Lenell Smith, Ida Jackson, Maude Britt, and Mahelia Turner; four sisters-in-law, Annie Mayo, Rosa Jackson, Lillie Epps and Martha Clements (Kermit) along with a host of nieces, nephews, cousins, and friends, one devoted, Inez Scruggs.
