Robert Lee Brown was born February 6, 1932 in Cumberland, VA to the late Beatrice Brown Dickerson & Clyde Johnson. He was reared by his grandparents, Lee & Sarah Brown.
At an early age, Robert was baptized and joined the Rocky Mount Baptist Church where his membership remained. He served on many ministries; Trustee, Pastor's Aide, Missionary, and Co-Chairman of the
Deacon board during, his time there. He attended & helped several other church families.
Robert attended Cumberland Training School and left school early to help take care of the family.
Robert (Dad, Papa, Uncle Bob & Brown Bomber, or Mr. Brown) as he was known so dearly by his loved ones. Robert was a good son, husband, brother, father, grandfather, uncle, cousin and friend. Later in his adult life Robert went to Pinehurst, NC and became the 1st Black Matre D at the Carolina Hotel. While he was there he met his wife, Jimmie. Bob returned to Cumberland 1974 to make it his own once again. He was an entrepreneurial and a truck driver. He then returned to NC in 1984 and pursued Jimmie again this time having her relocate to Cumberland. Bob took a job with Huss Trucking of Chase City, VA until he was 71 years old. Robert served as president of the Young Men's Social Club & the Rocky Mount Hunting Club for several years. Bob was a family man and liked entertaining his loved ones when they came to town. So we know that all of this we will miss. After retirement Robert enjoyed church, his family & turkey shoots. He maintained his membership with Cornerstone Masonic Lodge in NC.
Robert spent the last few months at the Laurels of Willow Creek Skilled Nursing facility until he was admitted to Johnston Willis hospital on September 17, 2013.
On September 26, 2013 he went home to be with the Lord. He was preceded in death by a wife, Alberta Brown; a son, Alvin Brown; sisters, Mary Brown and Sue Thornton; and brothers, Thomas Dickerson and

There are also additional people that he thought of like his children too many to name but special mention goes to Bridgette Hendrick she was his newest child and she has stood by him as close as any child would from the day she met him, He lifted them all up in prayer daily. Even when he was on his sick bed he asked about his loved ones. The pride of how his grandfather showed him how to be a man was something he tried to pass on to every young man he came in contact with. If they didn't get it then that was their own fault. We will all remember what he would say no matter how bad he felt. "I am Blessed by the Best and Praying for the Rest."
