Obituary of Samuel Coatland Anderson

Samuel Coatland Anderson was born October 24, 1943 to Coatland and Elsie Tanner Anderson in Columbia, Virginia. Sam joined Pleasant View Baptist Church at an early age and remained a member until his death. He attended public schools in Cumberland and graduated in 1962 from Luther P. Jackson High School. Later he served in the U. S. Army for several years until he was honorably discharged. Sam then joined the workforce; working for various jobs. His last employment was with Virginia Department of Transportation (VDOT) where he worked his way up to supervisor, retiring after 30 years of service. Sam was a kind, soft spoken man who was about his business. He enjoyed hunting and fishing. He departed this life on July 3, 2013 at Woodland Nursing Home in Farmville, Virginia. Sam was preceded in death by two sisters Marion and Vanessa and one brother, Harold. Sam is survived by: his wife, Mary; two brothers, Gerald E. Anderson (LaVern) and Paul Anderson (Ann); four sisters, Minnie P. Giles, Clementine E. Wade (Arthur), Linda A. Hicks and Annette Williams; one sister-in-law, Helen Mayo; one brother-in-law, Joe Jones and numerous nieces, nephews, cousins, and friends.
