George Albert Mayo was born to Sam and Betty Hopkins Mayo on July 6, 1923 in Buckingham County, Virginia. His parents, one sister and three brothers preceded him in death.
He was converted, baptized and joined the Petersville Baptist Church at an early age. He supported his church financially until his health began to fail in 2002. George had a friendly smile and a heart of laughter. He had a love for fishing and hunting and was always willing to help others. He was educated in Buckingham County at the Petersville School House.
George was married to Frances Viola Mayo and to this union 2 children were born. She preceded him in death on March 21, 2005. He had 4 sons from a previous marriage.
George Albert worked at various jobs. Over the years he was employed at Booker Brothers' Garage, Buffalo Shook, Jones Taxi Service, Cumberland and Buckingham County School Systems; where he retired as a bus driver for over 30 years.
In January 2009 George became a resident at the Woodland Nursing Home in Farmville, Virginia, where he remained until December 13, 2009 when he was called home to be with the Lord.
He leaves to cherish fond memories of him, his loving and devoted sister and daughter; Mary Royall and Darlene Langhorne (Jerry), five sons; Thomas Scruggs (Rose), George Mayo, Jr.; Monroe Mayo (Doris), James Mayo, and Charles Mayo (Linda). Eleven grandchildren; one devoted Whitney Langhorne. Three great grandchildren. Five sister-in-laws, one devoted and she also serviced as his care giver Kate Lee Childress. He leaves a host of nieces, nephews, great nieces and great nephews, cousins and friends.
