Please share a memory of Rogers to include in a keepsake book for family and friends.
Rogers Lewis Marshall lived a blessed life of one hundred years. He was born November 18, 1912 in Dillwyn, VA and was the oldest of nine children born to the late Sarah Elizabeth Tyree and James Early Marshall. At an early age, he was converted, baptized and joined Chief Cornerstone Baptist Church in Dillwyn, Virginia.
He attended Buckingham Training School in Dillwyn but quit school at an early age to work on the family's farm due to the declining health of his father. During his long and prosperous life he worked primarily as a farmer; raising produce, tobacco and livestock. For a brief period of time, he also assisted with building runways for what is now known as the Richmond International Airport.
He loved his family. Roger and his second wife devoted their lives to raising three great- nephews, John R. Rose Jr., James A. Rose "Anthony", Reverend Albert J. Giles "Junez" and one great - niece Holly A. Glasgow "Holly Ann".
On March 15, 1981, he married his third wife; Mary F. Booker (deceased) of Cumberland, Virginia where they lived for fifteen years. He was a beloved step-father to Veronica Lindsay (William) and Jane Crawley (Charles). In 1996, due to the failing health of his wife, they moved to Richmond, Virginia (Henrico) to live with his youngest step-daughter and her husband. He was loved unconditionally by his step-children and their families.
On Friday, February 1, 2013, he departed this life at home. A special note is given to Charles for his dedication and love in providing nursing care for many months.
He leaves to cherish his memory a devoted brother, Ralph Marshall (Loretta); two step - daughters, Veronica Lindsay (William) and Jane Crawley (Charles); step- grandchildren, Danielle Crawley, Brandon Crawley, Joseph Quirley, Larry Jones, and Angela Hall (Eugene); three great- nephews, John R. Rose Jr., James A. Rose, Reverend Albert J. Giles and one great - niece, Holly A. Glasgow and a host of nieces, nephews, cousins, and friends to remember and celebrate the life that he led.
