Addie Lee Hughes Clements departed this life for eternal rest on Sunday, January 20, 2013. Addie was born on June 1, 1931, to the late Alice Harris Hughes and Phillip E. Hughes.
Addie attended the public schools in Powhatan, Virginia. She accepted Christ at an early age and became
a member of Hollywood Baptist Church.
In 1957 Addie left Powhatan after marrying Alburn (Gump) O. Clements, to live in Newark, New Jersey.
She retired from Alexander Street School in Newark on April 13, 1995. After retirement she returned to
her hometown of Powhatan in 1995.
Addie was a special lady who was known for her soft spoken voice. Her passion and love were her church, family, cooking as well as tending to her flower garden.
She leaves to cherish her memory a loving and devoted husband of 59 years Alburn O. Clements; a son
Russell Gregory Hughes (Terry) of Chesterfield, VA; a daughter, Theresa Walker of Richmond, VA; she
was blessed with two grandchildren, Courtney Hughes of Chesterfield, VA and Khalil Walker of Powhatan, VA; a sister, Mamie Palmore (Roy) of Powhatan, VA; brothers-in-law, Kermit Clements (Martha) of Richmond, VA; George R. Perkins, of Powhatan, VA; sister-in-law Jacqueline Brown (Bill) of Richmond VA; a host of nieces, nephews, cousins and friends among them a special friend and confidant Martha Clements, devoted dear friends, Elrean Harris, Alease Phillips, Dorothy Fox, Christine Johnson, and Inez Scruggs.
