Obituary of Alma R Miller

Sister Alma Robinson Miller, the daughter of the late Deacon Horace and Nannie D. Robinson, was born January 2, 1917 in Cumberland, VA. She departed this life on December 13, 2012 at the Holly Manor Nursing Home in Farmville, VA. Sister Alma accepted Christ at an early age at Bethlehem Baptist Church in Cumberland, VA where she attended the Bethlehem Public School. In 1933, she moved to Patterson, NJ and married Howard Booker, her childhood sweetheart, and to this union, a daughter, Barbara Anne Booker, was born. Later, they relocated to Mount Vernon, NY. After her first marriage ended, she moved back to Cumberland, VA where she met and married the late Blanch K. Miller in 1949; this union lasted 51 years. She moved her membership to Rising Zion Baptist Church where she was an active member for the past 63 years; serving as choir president, trustee, missionary member, mother of the church, and other duties. She was also active in community organizations, such as the 4-H Club, NAACP, Cumberland Missionary and Educational Conference, Cumberland Fair Association, Pine Grove Community Center, Busy Bee Club, and other organizations. Sister Alma loved to travel, but her favorite pastime was baking. She was an excellent cook. She spent the majority of her life as a domestic worker in New York and worked for a many years for the Stonell family in Cumberland, VA. Later, she worked in a number of homes in the Powhatan and Midlothian area, and she also worked at St. Emma Military Academy in Powhatan, VA until it closed. She leaves to honor her memory one daughter, Barbara Williams; one step-daughter, Eloise Booker; and one step-son, Burton Miller; six grandchildren, Joseph Marsh, Jr. (Veronica); Vincent Marsh (Debra); Michael Marsh (Sonya); Patricia Toney (Ernest); Deborah Marsh; and Barbara Davidson (Larry); 18 great grandchildren, Joseph Marsh, III; Tiffany Marsh; Vincent Marsh, Jr.; Caibien Marsh; Kelise Marsh; Tlaija Marsh; Michael Marsh, Jr.; Joshua Marsh; Nathaniel Marsh; Kyle Marsh; Ernest Toney, Jr. (Angela); Brian Toney (Diana); Brandon Toney; Trevor Toney; Larry Davidson, Jr.; Landon Davidson; Lauren Davidson; and Laniya Davidson; four great-great-grandchildren, Josiah Toney; Briasia Toney; Dayanna Toney; and A'lasiah Marsh; and a host of step-grandchildren, nieces, nephews and cousins.
