Obituary of Cornelius Madison Smith

On Monday, October 22, 2012 Cornelius Madison Smith departed this life at Retreat Hospital in Richmond, Virginia. He was born December 18, 1927 in Goochland, Virginia to the late Edward Madison Smith and Angeline Barrett Smith. He attended the public schools in Goochland, Va. At an early age Cornelius joined County Line Baptist Church and later in life he joined Hollywood Baptist Church where he served on the Trustee Ministry. On February 15, 1946 Cornelius was called to serve his country in the United States Coast Guard, receiving his honorable discharge in 1947. On September 6, 1948 he was joined in wedlock to Annette Hubert and they lived happily together until his passing. Cornelius was employed at Defense Mapping Agency where he received numerous awards and citations. After retiring he returned to Powhatan, Virginia, where he resided until his departure from this life. He was preceded in death by his parents, a sister and brother. He is survived by a loving and devoted wife Annette Hubert Smith; two devoted sisters-in-law, Gladys Lee and Ruby Turner; a devoted brother-in-law, Robert Lee; two devoted nieces, Lanette Lee and Linda Turner; numerous other nieces, nephews, cousins and friends.
