Obituary of Carl Edwin Mayo

Please share a memory of Carl to include in a keepsake book for family and friends.
On November 16, 1949 Carl Edwin Mayo was born to Gustavius and Bertha Braxton Mayo in Cumberland, Virginia. Carl joined Little Fork Baptist Church were his membership remained throughout his life. Carl graduated from Luther P. Jackson High School in Cumberland County at the age of 17. During that era it was hard for a young man to find a good job, so Carl enrolled and attended Norfolk State College. After which he began employment with S & K Famous Brands Men's Clothing Store where he retired from after 32 years of service. His health declined for a short period of time while battling with prostate cancer. However, he bounced back with support from his family and friends. In 1980 Carl married Paulette Lovern Anderson and from that union one son was born. Carl was a very warm kind hearted and loving father, brother, uncle and friend. He always enjoyed having a good time, being around family and friends, laughing, joking, dancing his little two steps, just cutting up and enjoying life. He always enjoyed going to Charlottesville to Pam's house for Christmas dinner, ready to get into that ham, looking at old family photos, cracking jokes on one another, and opening gifts. His kind hearted smile made Carl a true blessing to everyone he met. Carl was preceded in death by his parents and his brother, Wesley Dean Mayo and wife, Paulette; but he leaves his memories and love to his son, Gavin Christopher Anderson Mayo; daughter, Michelle Vaughan; two sisters, Gloria Mayo and Pamela Mayo; two brothers, Marvin and Stanley Mayo (Tina); one sister-in-law, Diane Mayo; two aunts, June Braxton and Orene Wesley (Willie); one uncle, Ernest Mayo (Carol); eight nieces, Trina King, Princess Wilson, Sheena Washington, Rachel, Latoya Mayo, Masheda Mayo, Darlene Gainer, Jackie; five nephews, Princes Wilson, Darrell Mayo, Tommie Mayo, Clifton Mayo, and Stanley Mayo, Jr.; a host of cousins and friends, one special friend, Jenny Jones and a devoted cousins, Virginia Mayo who was always there for Carl anytime he called, whether it was day or night, always ready to help. Life will never be the same without you, Carl. But you will never ever be forgotten. The Lord is my Shepherd, I shall not want: Lift up your heads, O ye gates; even lift them up, ye everlasting doors; and the King of glory shall come in.
