Melvyn Hargrove quietly slipped away with the angels to be with the Lord on May 25, 2012 at 1:04pm at VCU Medical Center in Richmond, Virginia. He was born on June 29, 1945 in Henderson, North Carolina and predeceased by Mr. John and Mary Thelma Hargrove.
He graduated from the Henderson, North Carolina public school systems and studied at Farmingdale State College in Long Island, New York. An avid reader and a lifelong student, Melvyn loved aviation, mortuary science, and accounting. Gardening, cooking, and miniature golf and spending time with his grandchildren.
He is survived and forever loved by his wife of thirty-three years, Evelyn Hargrove. Their lives evolved into what some would call bliss. Together they worked side by side over the years to not only deepened their faith in God and supported their home church in every way they could. They both sang in the choir and were active members on various church committees. He was one of five children and will join his mother Thelma Hargrove, father John Hargrove, brother John Hargrove Jr., and Myrtle Ann Hargrove (Shirley) Harris in heaven. He is survived by his brother William Hargrove (Barbara) of Kittrell, North Carolina and sister Katherine Daves (Elder Robert) of Medford, New York. He spent his final years working as a Deacon and faithful member of Mount Calvary Baptist Church in Cartersville, Virginia.
Though his vehicle has left this earth, his soul walks on as a true testament to the life he lived. He instilled in his children and grandchildren ideals rooted in the bible. His children: Thomas Randolph (Jackie) of Cartersville, Virginia, Wanda Skeeter of Powhatan, Virginia, Valerie Martin (deceased), Kendra Hargrove of Southampton, New York, Derrick Hargrove (Joann) of Mastic Beach, New York, Yvonne Wild (Steven) of Ashburn, Virginia, and Brenda Addison of Suffolk, Virginia, will carry on his legacy through action and deed.
His beloved grandchildren will forever cherish their time with him and carry on his teachings: Nikkya (Dinushka), Natasha (RaShaun), Robert, Daniel, Ishea, Nyshea, Deja, Ciara, Jarred, Little Wayne, Jonathan, Kavion, Tyler, Christian, Brenden, and Brandon. Brother and sister in-laws: Raymond Smith (Mary), Herbert Smith, Elder Jerry Fore (Joan), Elder Virginia Green (sister- in-law), Christine Eadom (sister in-law), Bonnie Hill (sister in-law) Aunt Betty Quinichette and a host of nieces, nephews, and cousins.
His devotion to family was universal and dear to his heart were both his church and work families. His friends on the job, especially Thomas, Mike, and Carl gave him both laughter and love.
His service to the Lord has not ended and his faith and love will carry on.
