Obituary of Derrick Gene Lang

Derrick Gene Lang was born on April 17, 1966 in Newark, NJ to Arthur Gene Lang and the late Ida Lang. Derrick departure this life on February 12, 2012, after a battle with a brief illness. Derrick attended St. Benedict Parochial school in Newark, NJ, and he graduated in 1984. He entered the United States Air Force in June 1986 under the delayed enlistment program, and started basic training on October 3rd 1986. His background was in Airfield Systems maintenance and he has served at various state side and overseas assignments to include South Korea, Northern Japan, Italy, and Saudi Arabia. Before retirement MSGT Derrick Lang was the Superintendent assigned to the Combat Airfield Systems Flight, 33rd Combat Communications Squadron, 3rd Combat Communications Group, at Tinker Air force Base, Oklahoma. He was responsible for leading and managing a crew in three diverse career fields. He provided guidance and established training standards required for the effective management and operations of four unique Air Traffic Controland Landing Systems. He received the squadron's Lance P, Sijan Leadership award, and was selected as the squadron's Senior NCO of the Year in 2009. While assigned in Misawa Japan, Sergeant Lang was selected as 2005 35 FW Lt. Gen Leo Marquez C-E Technician Supervisor and 2006 35 FW 2E Communications & Information Supervisor. In September 11, 2011, he retired out of the United States Air Force with honors after serving his country for 24 years and 11 months. While serving in the military he graduated from Touro International University in California with a Bachelors of Science in Business Administration, and graduated from Phoenix University with a Master in Human Resources Management (Magna Cum Laude). On November 11, 1989, he was joined in holy matrimony with Dina Lavon Morris, from this union two sons and two daughters were born. Derrick was a lover of sports, and refereed basketball games. He encourage his children to participate in sports, and took great delight in their accomplishments. He was known for being in the kitchen cooking and barbecuing. Derrick was a great father to his children and a loving husband to his wife. He was a great inspiration to his children as well as his children's friends, and his co-workers. Derrick made a great impact on other people lives, and will be missed dearly. He leaves to cherish his memories, his devoted wife of 22 years, Dina Lavon Lang. His Father Arthur Lang. three daughters, Jacquelyn James (Mark), Da'sia Lang, Dionna Lang; two sons, Derrick A. Lang, and Donte' Lang; one sister, Pamela Lang; two brothers, Chris Lang, and Clark Lang; devoted Father and Mother -in-laws, Clarence and Karen Morris; two brother -in-laws, Clarence Jr. and Gary Morris; four nieces, Bria Thomas-Morris, Marina, Gabriela, Bianca Lang; and a host of cousins, other relatives, and friends.
