Obituary of Blanche Gillis

Blanche Cleveland Gillis was born on July 6, 1917 to George and Millie Taylor Cleveland in Powhatan, Virginia. Blanche attended Powhatan County Public Schools. She was converted, baptized and joined the Second Antioch Baptist Church in Powhatan, Virginia. In 1997 she moved her membership to Little Zion Baptist Church where she faithfully attended Church, Bible Study and Sunday School. Blanche was joined in wedlock to Mr. John Sidney Gillis. From this union seven children were born. She was a homemaker, where she enjoyed arts & crafts and playing dominos. She also found great pleasure in fellowshipping at St. Johns Neumann Senior Center in Powhatan, Virginia. On Wednesday, November 9, 2011 Blanche departed this life at St. Francis Hospital in Midlothian, Virginia. She was preceded in death by her husband, John Sidney Gillis; two son, William "Sonny" Cleveland, Sr., and Clinton Gillis; 1 great grandson, Rashad Brown. She leaves to cherish fond memories three sons, John Gills, Sr., Linwood Gillis (Margaret), and Zane Johnson; four daughters, Shirley Johnson ( Junious), Jeanette Patrick (William), Dorine Gillis, and Francis Gillis; 15 grandchildren, 16 great - grandchildren, 7 great-great grandchildren, along with a host of nieces, nephews, cousins, and friends.
