Obituary of Anna Dorene Harris

Please share a memory of Anna to include in a keepsake book for family and friends.
On Friday morning, November 4, 2011, Anna Dorene Harris departed her life at St. Francis Hospital in Midlothian, Virginia as a beloved mother, grandmother, sister, aunt, cousin, and friend. Anna Dorene Harris was given a pair of angel wings and her soul now has a place in eternity. Anna Dorene Harris was born to the late Willie Langston and Julia Morris in Powhatan, Virginia on July 21, 1946. She was a native of Powhatan, Virginia where she was baptized and joined Little Zion Baptist Church in Powhatan, Virginia. She attended Pocahontas High School in Powhatan, graduating in 1967. After graduation, she moved to Long Island, New York where she was employed at Grumman Aircraft Corporation. She was married John B. Harris III and from that union a son was born, John B. Harris IV, also known as "John John." Anna loved to talk and call her family and friends often. She especially loved to call her beloved sister, Ernell on a daily basis as well as her grandsons, son, and daughter-in-law. She always had a caring heart, wanting to check on the family and let them know how much she loved them. She always demonstrated such love through both action and words. She was truly interested in everything that was going on and where her friends and family had been or where they were going and if possible she was going with them. She was a loving and kindhearted person who always wanted to do the right thing. She would always maintain her appearance in keeping her hair "fly" and nails manicured. Anna was known for her great hospitality in making her homemade macaroni salad for the family on Sundays evenings. Also she was known for preparing delicious candied yams for the holidays. Anna was known as a "phenomenal woman" despite the many trials of her life. She was determined to persevere no matter what entered her path. When we last saw her, she was still fighting until the end of her natural life. We will meet Anna again and she will greet us with open arms saying "Welcome to Heaven and Come on in!" She was preceded in death by father, Langston Morris, mother Julia Morris, sister, Nannie Williams, Brother, Charles (Charlie) Morris, sister-in-law, Elsie Morris. She leaves to cherish: her son; John B. Harris IV (Lorinda); grandchildren, Russell Washington, John V, Jaquan, Sha'Niah; sister, Ernell Miller, (Bishop James Miller Jr.); three brothers, James "Jimmy" Morris Sr., Emmitt Morris, Lorenzo Morris, (Thelma); Aunt Lelia Hicks. She also leaves a number of dear nieces, nephews, cousins, relatives and friends; 4 devoted, Lawrence & Ruth Jefferson and Storm & Lona Harper.
