Obituary of Marshall Lee Payne

Marshall Lee Payne was born to the late Arthur James and Alberta Bowles Payne on July 17, 1928 in Bula (Goochland County) Virginia. He attended the local schools, Bunker Hill Elementary and Central High School. Later, "Peter" as he was known to everyone, enlisted in the United States Army and served in the Korean War. Following his discharge, Marshall Lee moved to Washington D. C. There he met and married his wife, Jane, and became the father of Reginald, Judy, and a stepdaughter, Jackie. In Marshall's later years he returned to Goochland for a period of time. During this time he renewed his membership at Second Union Baptist Church the church of his childhood. At the time of his death he lived in Washington D. C. with this beloved son, Reginald, his daughter-in-law, Michele, and his grandsons/ Mikal and Reginald/ Jr. Marshall was preceded in death by four siblings- Clyde, John and Andrew Payne and Martha Payne Coleman. He leaves four sisters, Tody Ware/ Azile Lane/ Nell Jones, and Alberta Parrish (Curtis); five nieces/ six nephews, many additional relatives, and others who remembered "Peter" from over the years. "To every thing there is a season, a time for every purpose under heaven ..."
