Obituary of Herman Elmo Taylor

Herman Elmo Taylor "Mo", as he liked to be called, entered his eternal rest on Sunday, October 2, 2011 at Johnston Willis Hospital. He was born on September 17, 1927.
Herman was baptized and joined the Mount Zion Baptist Church at an early age. After marriage, he joined the Pine Hill Baptist Church where he was a trustee and served as Superintendent of the Sunday School.
He was drafted into the U.S. Army in 1953 and served for two years in the U.S. and Germany.
"Mo" met his life long partner Ernestine Vassar Green. They were married on March 17, 1953. From this union three sons were born. Herman retired from Whitlow Chevrolet after thirty years of service. He also worked for Watkins Nursery for ten years. He took pride in his work and seldom missed a day.
Herman "Mo", enjoyed having a "good time" and he also enjoyed traveling, especially cruises. He and his wife, Ernestine took many cruises to exotic countries such as Puerto Rico, Bahamas, Virgin Islands, Haiti and Jamaica.
He leaves to cherish: his loving and devoted wife of fifty-eight years, Ernestine Vassar Taylor; four sons, Geroy (Linda), DuVall (Wilhelmenia),Gonzolus (Carolyn) and Barlow; four grandchildren; five great-grandchildren; three sisters, Julia Joyner of Baltimore, MD, Maude Funn of Mechanicsville, VA, Helen Morris of Powhatan; one brother, James Taylor of Powhatan; one brother-in-law, Ernest Green, (Barbara) of Richmond, VA; one sister-in-law, Julia Churchill (Ralph) of Williamsburg, VA, and a host of nieces, nephews, cousins, and friends.
