Mr. Philemond Roosevelt Jones was born to Porter and Blanche Simms Jones on January 21, 1924.
Philemond attended Benson Spring School in Cumberland. After school he joined the C.C.C. Camp
and worked as farmer until retirement.
At an early age he was baptized at Rocky Mount Baptist Church where his membership remained. He was a member of the Senior Choir ministry and the Men's Chorus ministry until his health no longer permitted.
May 24, 1947 he married the love of his life, Helen Johnson of Cumberland. Where his loved remained until death; sixty-four years. To this union two children were born.
Philemond enjoyed farming, gardening, and singing. He was a man of few words but with opened hands ready to lend a hand to any and everyone. He loved is family and they loved him back. He was a great husband, father, grandfather, brother, and uncle.
He was preceded in death by his parents, siblings, and a son, Richard.
He leaves to cherish fond memories: wife, Helen Jones; one daughter, Leutrecia Booker; one granddaughter, Cynthia Booker; three sisters, Ruth Epps, Sallie Jackson and one devoted Bibb Trent; a number of nieces, with one devoted, Mary Edmonds (George), numerous nephews with one devoted, Roger Jackson (Deborah) along with a host of cousins, other relatives and friends.
