Obituary of Franklin Roosevelt Langhorne

Mr. Franklin Langhorne was born November 26, 1940 to Rex and Annie Trent Langhorne in Cumberland, Virginia. He was the third child of thirteen children. He attended Cedar Fork School in Cumberland County. Later in life was converted, baptized, and joined the Center Union Baptist Church were he served on the Usher Ministry. In 1960 Frank was joined in wedlock to Ms. Shirley Crump; as he calls her "Old Lady" of Cumberland. To this union three children were born. Frank was a hard and devoted worker. For forty-two years he was employed by Southern States Cooperative. After retirement in 2003 he started a lawn care service which he worked diligently until his passing. He had a passion for getting to know people, and being in their presence. He was a kind hearted person, who was ready to lend a helping hand. Frank displayed these actions through his commitment to his community. He was a member of the Cumberland Fair Association and the Rocky Mount Hunt Club. Jackie Wood as he was affectingly known organized and managed the Cumberland Ace male baseball team and Cumberland Aces female softball team. Frank found great joy in traveling to the various counties to the car shows and then hosting the annual Langhorne -Trent's Car Show. He was full of laughter and good times. Frank was a stylish dresser who never left home without having on a hat to match his outfit. He was the backbone of his entire family and truly loved each of them. On Sunday, July 10, 2011, Frank departed this life at MCV Hospital in Richmond, Virginia. He was preceded in death by his parents, one brother, Harvey Langhorne and one sister, Loretha Johnson. He leaves to cherish fond memories, his wife, Shirley; two daughters, Mary Austin and Verna Langhorne; two sons, Timothy Langhorne (Annie) and Robert Carter (Thelma); 6 grandchildren, Shannethia Ruth (Lloyd), Latoya Austin, Cherita Fleming, Jamarcus Trent, Taniesha Austin, and Kiarra Fleming; 5 great grandchildren; 7 brothers, Robert (Delores), William (Rosa), Eddie, Lewis (Linda), Reggie (Laura), Taylor (Alice) and Floyd (Barbara); three sisters, Sadie Everett, Addie Trent (Otis), and Caroline Crump ( Larry); 1 aunt, Ada Langhorne; one great aunt, Alma Brown; two great uncles, Warren ( Pattie) and Levi Langhorne; three sisters-in-law, Catherine Langhorne, Marie Fleming, and Frances Langhorne; one brother-in-law, Franklin Crump; a devoted friend, Charles Langhorne, and a host of nieces, nephews, cousins, and friends.
