Please share a memory of George to include in a keepsake book for family and friends.
George Thomas Mayo Jr. was born to the late George T. Mayo, Sr. and Evelyn Brown Mayo on April 8, 1934. He departed this life on August 19, 2021 at the age of 87. George was baptized at a young age and attended Cumberland County schools. He married his lifelong love, Novella Logan on November 25, 1955. George and Novella moved to New Jersey and George joined the United States Army wherein he served from 1957 to 1959. George worked several jobs until his own business, Mayo Painting, Inc., became lucrative. George and Novella maintained the business together from 1959 to 1995. After retiring, he and Novella enjoyed travelling and visiting family and friends. They returned to their Virginia roots in 2006 and joined New Hope Baptist Church in Cartersville. George was an avid coin collector, he enjoyed vintage cars and firearms. He loved good conversation and especially appreciated helping family members discover their roots. He was always happy to share his memories and keep everyone guessing with his tall tales. George loved a good joke, was kind to everyone and lent a hand to anyone he could help. George is survived by: his wife of 65 years, Novella; step-brother, Walter Saunders (Mary Jane) and step-sister, Marie Futch. He will be greatly missed by his nieces and nephews, a host of family and his many friends. His Journey's Just Begun Don't think of him as gone away his journey's just begun Life holds so many facets, this earth is only one. Just think of him as resting from the sorrows and the tears in a place of warmth and comfort where there are no days and no years. Think how he must be wishing that we could know today, how nothing but our sadness can really pass away. And think of him as living in the hearts of those he touched. For nothing loved is ever lost and he was loved so much. Author Unknown
