"Beautiful are faithful ones in Jehovah's sigh. Father, you remember how in faith they've run. Give them your assurance. May they hear' well done'. "No one deserves to hear those words more than Ada, "Sis", Mama, Nana, born Ada Jane Ruffin on October 4, 1923 in Bertie County, North Carolina. Though deeply loved by her parents, John and Luvenia Ruffin, Ada learned at an early age, the cruelties of life. Because of a tragic accident in a fire, her forearms were badly burned and scarred. The cruel teasing and taunts of her classmates caused her mother to take her out of school. A shy and inhibited child, this only added to her feelings of unworthiness, loneliness and isolation. In her mind, God was punishing her. She had a bad stutter and did not learn to read until she was an adult. That all began to change when she and husband Scott moved to Boston in 1944. They started to study the Bible with Jehovah's Witnesses and learned of a God that was not causing her suffering but who loved her unconditionally. She began to love herself and overcome her shyness. She was baptized in 1948 and embarked on a life service to her God. Her life became a life of triumph. Her beauty became apparent not only to her but all who knew her. There was no one more important to Ada than her God and her family. Her beloved husband of 50 years, Scott (deceased) their two cherished sons, James and Melvin and their wives. A cherished Grandmother to Lory-San, Aaron and James Jr.; Melvin Jr. and Jeffrey; Joel (deceased)and Jason. Great Grandmother to Brian and Sean; Nicholas; and Evan, Elizabeth and Ethan; and "CJ" (Clayton), Jeremiah and Julien; and Gabriel and Sylvie; beloved Great-Great Grandmother to Christian She was the last of nine siblings, (including herself) whom she loved unreservedly. Add to that countless nieces, nephews, cousins and spiritual brothers and sisters. Aunt Ada, Sis Mamma, Nana, Sister Clark poured herself out on behalf of all. We felt it and hope she felt our love in return. We will be ever grateful that she was a part of our lives.
