Obituary
Karen Delphine Mayo, born May 21, 1978, was the youngest daughter of Alfred Davis Mayo Jr., and Lucy Velma Trent Mayo. She graduated from Cumberland High School in 1998.
At the age of 10, she joined the Reed Rock Baptist Church where she remained a loyal member until her death. She served with the usher's ministry and in the Junior and Senior Choir.
In 2000, she worked for the Department of Corrections, then transferred to health care until her health started to decline.
Karen loved to be outside, whether it was just sitting on the porch or working in the yard. She loved NASCAR, and she was always a "Ford Girl." Her favorite television show was "Murder She Wrote." She watched while eating her BBQ potato chips along with her ginger ale. If you knew Karen, you knew not to pronounce it that way because she wouldn't answer you until you called her "Kern."
She was preceded in death by her father, Alfred Davis Mayo, Jr., grandparents, Watt Phillip and Beulah Mae Booker Trent, Alfred Davis Mayo, Sr., and Gracie Taylor Mayo. Karen went home to be with the Lord November 23, 2025.
She leaves to cherish loving memories: two daughters, Arlester Mayo and A'Laiah Mayo; mother, Lucy Mayo; sister, Theresa Blanton (Earl), four aunts, Catherine Johnson, Bonnie Trent Rosa Woodard, Doris Henderson (Charles); three uncles Raymond Mayo (Ethel), Hazell Trent (Gloria), Alfred Trent (Bridgette); great aunt, Iola Bartee; one niece, Jasmine Blanton; one nephew, Shaquille Blanton; one great niece, Cali Britt; best friend, Elroy Crump; and a host of cousins and friends.
If Roses Grow in Heaven
If roses grow in heaven
Lord, please pick a bunch for me,
Place them in my Mother's arms
And tell her they're from me.
Tell her I love her and miss her,
and when she turns to smile,
place a kiss upon her cheek
and hold her for awhile
Because remembering her is easy,
I do it every day,
But there's an ache within my heart
That will never go away.
