Obituary

Sybil Boyd Brown was born on July 3rd, 1938 to Margaret Lipsey Boyd and Judeah Boyd. She was the second oldest of eight children. Sybil acquired her education in the New York City school system, also known as the "Big Apple," where she attended Hunter College.

After college she worked as an entrepreneur. She ran a restaurant, owned several thrift stores, was a skilled seamstress, and her employment included a stint as a K-Mart employee. Of all her endeavors, the one that gave her the most satisfaction was that her time spent as a private home health care nurse, taking care of hospice patients. She was indeed a very talented woman. Some would say she was a "jack of all trades and mastered one ~ and that one was surviving the woes of this life, doing all that she can and could do to take care of her children.

Sybil was later introduced to Mr. Charlie Henry Brown, whom she married. He was a wonderful, caring, devoted husband for forty years. Realizing that there's life after New York City, Sybil moved from New York City to Cumberland, VA, with her husband.

After taking residence in Virginia, Sybil attended Greater Works Christian Church Ministries, where she studied to not only show thyself approved, but to also share the Gospel with those who are willing to listen. Sybil later joined Zion Baptist Church, beside her husband, Charlie H. Brown.

One of her greatest achievements occurred under the leadership of Pastor Nathaniel Staton when on August 30, 2009, she was ordained and licensed to preach and became Evangelist Sybil Brown.

On October 13, 2025, Sybil Brown passed away from this life to be with the Lord.

She was preceded in death by her parents and five of her siblings.

She is survived by her husband and four children; three daughters, Nanette Satterthwaite McIntyre, Ruth Satterthwaite, Sydni Marrquesas, and one son, Bruce Satterthwaite, Sr. (Elizabeth El Freda Harris Satterthwaite); ten grandchildren, Nicole Satterthwaite, Georgette Mathews, Patricia Gordon, Heather Satterthwaite, Justin McDowell, Bruce Jarreau McDowell, Jr., Ebony Dart, Brian Withey, Deyline Lucas, Mikayla Tafolla;

eight great grandchildren, Savion Zapatero, Arianna Zapatero, Aaliya Passmore, Xavier Collins, Jasiri McDowell, Kordell Glenn, Keyon Anthony, Maliyah Dart; one sister, Yvonne Bailey; one brother, William Boyd; a host of nieces, nephews, cousins, other relatives and friends.

Study to shew thyself approved unto God, a workman that needeth not to be ashamed, rightly dividing the word of truth.
