Obituary
Linwood I. Crump was born in Cumberland, Virginia on March 25, 1936, to Katherine Crump. He departed this life on October 6, 2025, peacefully in his home. He was the last of nine siblings carrying the Crump family name.
Lin, as he was affectionately called, grew up in Cumberland, where he was educated and graduated from Luther P. Jackson High School. After graduating, he moved to Richmond, Virginia, where he began his career. He worked for Motorola, EA Holsten, E. Chasen and W. M. Jordan Construction Company, where he retired as a painter and enjoyed the duration of his days leisurely.
At an early age, Lin joined Center Union Baptist Church. Upon moving to Richmond, he remained faithful in his relationship with the Lord while attending Cedar Street Baptist Church until his passing. Some of his hobbies included a passion for hunting, as he was a member of Stony Point and Town City Hill Hunt Clubs for many years. He was an avid fan of the Washington Commanders, which he watched weekly, as well as the Virginia Cavaliers. He enjoyed traveling with his church family and spending time with family and friends, as he often visited his childhood home.
He leaves to cherish fond memories; his two daughters, Lynette Norrell (Herman) and Tikka Washington; two grandchildren, Teosha and Herman Norrell, Jr.; two bonus children, Franette Fleming (George) and Keith Washington (Fawn); several bonus grandchildren, nieces, nephews and a host of other relatives and friends; among them, a devoted niece Darlene Massengburg, devoted friends, Lillian Pettiford and Nesha.
Our Father's Advice
By Ernest Smith
The best advice we ever had was given to us by our dad,
These occasions being rare, we listened with the greatest care.
Our dad began by telling us about his life, that we might see
The things he did, both bad and good, While wondering if we understood.
"Let heart and conscience be your guide, be not possessed with foolish pride.
Do the things that you must, do, ignore what others think of you.
Nor be ashamed of your ideas but leave them an excuse for your fears.
Your life is yours and yours alone--a treasure God has made your own.
If you are wrong but think you're right, instinct calls to stand and fight,
but better to surrender pride and try to see the other side.
" These were the words our father told; and we treasured them as gold
and somewhere, in a far-off land, my father knows we understand.
