Lily Mae wade, lovingly known as "SweetPea" was born on June 29, 1936, in Cumberland, Virginia to William Wade Sr., and Estell Anderson Wade.


At an early age, Mae was baptized and became a member of Pleasant View Baptist Church.


She attended Cumberland County Public Schools and graduated with the class of 1955. After completing her education, she moved to New Yor, where she was employed at New York Sweater company. Throughout her life, Mae lived several places, including Hartford, Connecticut, and later returned to Columbia, Virginia.


Mae was blessed with many gifts, talents, and hobbies. She enjoyed painting, making decorative pillows, knitting, and crocheting. She also had a deep love for music. Among her favorite artists were Jackie Wilson, Ike & Tina Turner, and Sam Cooke.


She peacefully departed this life on September 19, 2025. Mae was preceded in death by her parents; two sisters, Alberta Cox and Alma Lee; three brothers, William Wade Jr., Charles Russell Wade Sr., and Elijah Wade.


Mae leaves to cherish her loving memory her devoted son, Gary Wade; beloved granddaughter, La'Talia; sisters, Martha Jones of Long Island, NY, Flossie Jackson of Charlston, SC, and Katherine Branch of Columbia, VA; and a host of nieces, nephews, cousins and friends.


Mae will be remembered for her kind heart, her creativity and joy she brought to all who knew and loved her.
