Obituary of Alfred Davis Mayo,

Alfred Davis Mayo, Jr., a son of the late Alfred Davis Mayo,Sr and Gracie Taylor Wade Mayo was born November 10, 1948 in Columbia, Virginia. At an early age he was converted, baptized and joined Pleasant View Baptist Church where his membership remained. He attended and graduated from Luther P. Jackson High School. He joined the United States Army in 1969 where he served until he received his honorable discharged in 1971. He was then joined in wedlock to Miss Lucy Velma Trent of Cumberland. From this union two children was born; Theresa Mayo-Blanton (Lil-Bit) and Karen Delphine Mayo. "June" as he was affectionately known was employed at various places. His most recent place of employment was The City of Richmond for 29 years until his health began to fade. June was an outdoor person, very out spoken person, kind hearted, generous, handyman (Mr. Fix it), loved to collect antiques, and Cook. He departed his long life at The McGuire Veterans Hospital on May 20, 2011. He leaves to cherish fond memories: wife, Velma Mayo; two daugthers, Theresa Mayo-Blanton (Earl) and Karen Mayo; three grandchildren, Jasmine Blanton, Shaquille Blanton, and Arlester Mayo; three sisters, Rosa Woodard (Arthur), Vera Kelly (Joseph), Doris Henderson (Charles); one brother, Raymond Mayo (Ethel); one uncle, Augustine Taylor; father and mother -in-law, Phillip and Beulah Trent; three brothers-in-law, Hazell Trent (Gloria), Marshall Trent (Bonnie), Alfred Trent (Bridgette); two sisters-in-law, Catherine Johnson and Romaine Holcomb (Christopher) and a host of nieces, nephews, cousins and other relatives and friends.
