Obituary
Harold Raymond Scott, a son of Elwood Tucker Scott and Lucy James Scott, was born in Cumberland County, Virginia on June 1st, 1944. Raymond was the youngest of five children, Roger, Willis, "Willie", Clara, and Marilyn.
Raymond accepted Jesus Christ as his Lord and Savior at Rising Zion Baptist Church where his membership remained. He was very active in his church, where he played an active role in the church building society as well as the upkeep and maintenance of the church premises. Raymond also served as an usher for many years until the decline of his health.
Raymond grew up in Cumberland County where he attended Pine Grove School as well as attending Luther P. Jackson High School until his senior year. While in school Raymond was known for his love of baseball as well as his skills, serving as a pitcher on the mound.
Raymond was employed with Town and Country Chevrolet Oldsmobile, formerly known as Browns Chevrolet Oldsmobile, in Powhatan, VA, as a Chief Technician where he took great pride in his mechanical engineering skills solving many problems with cars. Raymond worked until his retirement, having many people still come to him after his retirement to have him, "Look at their car". It was a known fact if a person had a problem with their car, they would "give Scott a call", with Raymond saying, "well, let me see what I can do."
Raymond continued to enjoy fixing and repairing cars and could be seen in his later years on his tractor at the house in the fields. He also loved to plant seeds in the family fields, along with giving anyone that wanted remains from the abundance that he planted and was harvested. Raymond loved to have Fish Fry cookouts in which friends and family, near and far, would gather to laugh, talk and recall good and bad times of yesteryear.
Raymond wasn't a man to express his feeling, yet through his actions, he was a man that loved and cared for the people in his community, lending a helping hand when and to whomever needed. He will be greatly missed in his home, church and community by all that knew him.
On Saturday, 23rd of August, he departed this life at Beaufont Health & Rehabilitation Center, under Bristol Hospice Care. He is preceded in death by both parents and all his siblings.
He leaves to cherish fond memories; his devoted son, Khari (Shon) a number of nieces, nephews, cousins, and devoted family members, Kathryn Elaine "Kitten" Smothers, Marylin James Harper, Curtis James, devoted friends, Lawrence Larry Brown, Charles Dale Goins, Ernest Goins, Lawrence Jefferson, Raymond Jones, Roy Palmore Jr., Paul Parrish, Earl Smothers, Bruce Tate, Jeta Thomas Jr., Roland Wilkerson and a host of other relatives and friends.
God Saw You Getting Tired
God knew that you were so tired, and a cure was not to be,
So, He put his arms around you and whispered come to me
The Golden Gate stood open God knew you needed rest,
His garden must be beautiful, for he only takes the best.
Although we cannot touch you, you're never really gone,
for in the hearts of us who love you, your memory lives on.
Dad, take your rest, Love Shon
