Joseph Lee Miller Obituary

Obituary

Joseph Miller was born to Grace Ann Miller and Leroy Jefferson on August 6, 1950, in Cumberland County, VA. He was reared by his grandparents, John Lilton and Ellen Miller. He was the oldest of seven children, Alexander "Andy, Lavern, Vivian "Diane," Terry, Carol, and Rodney.

Joseph accepted Jesus Christ as his Lord and Savior at Mt. Calvary Baptist Church and later joined Little Zion Baptist Church. Joseph grew up in Cumberland County where he attended Pine Grove School and graduated from Luther P. Jackson High School. He served in the US Army during the Vietnam War, from which he received an honorable discharge.

He was employed for approximately forty-five years at Novolex (formerly Duro) as a machinist. In his free time, he enjoyed fixing and repairing everything, from cars to appliances. He also loved to take walks and to eat. His favorite food was fish and all kinds of sweets. Spiritually, his favorite gospel song was "I Shall Not Be Moved."

Joseph entered eternal rest on Thursday, August 7, 2025, at Henrico Doctors Hospital. He is preceded in death by his mother Grace Ann Miller Rachel and his father Leroy Jefferson, two sisters Vivian "Diane" Rachel and Laverne Rachel.

He is survived by his devoted wife of fifty-three years, Gwen Miller, daughters, DiSheka and LaTrea Miller. He is also survived by brothers; Alexander "Andy" Miller and Rodney Rachel, sisters; Terry Shearin (Robert) and Carol Walters (Sam), a devoted cousin, Wilbert Miller, and a host of nieces, nephews, cousins, and friends.

If I Trust Him Ever, I Shall Not Be Moved:

He Will Fail Me Never, I Shall Not Be Moved;

Just Like a Tree That's Planted by the Waters,

I Shall Not Be Moved.

If I shall pass before you wake, don't you cry for me.

May your heart be full of joy now I'm finally free.

Do me a favor don't you weep, just remember me.

Shall your heart be full of joy, now I'm finally free.

I know you miss me, I miss you too, 'til we meet again.

Temporarily we will be apart, but know I am your enternal friend.

Love you from my heart.
