Charles William Evans Obituary

Charles William Evans was born to William "Douglas" Evans and Lucille Trent Evans. Charles grew up in Powhatan, VA, where he accepted Christ at an early age and became a member of Center Union Baptist Church. He graduated from Powhatan County Public Schools and went on to earn an associate’s degree in criminology, marking the beginning of a life of service and dedication.

Charles began his career in law enforcement as a police officer in Washington, D.C., demonstrating a strong commitment to public safety and service. He later worked in security at Philip Morris while simultaneously serving his country with distinction in the Virginia Air National Guard as a Security Policeman. Charles later retired from the Department of Juvenile Justice, leaving behind a legacy of dedication to both his community and his country

Outside of his professional accomplishments, Charles was a man of many passions. He had a lifelong love for drag racing and classic cars, finding immense joy in both. His enthusiasm for racing was infectious, and it fostered lasting friendships throughout his life. Charles was also an avid fan of crime shows, with On Patrol being his all-time favorite.

Known for his kind heart, strong work ethic, humility, and unwavering commitment, Charles will be remembered by those who loved him. He leaves a legacy of service, devotion, and love.

Charles passed away peacefully on July 21, 2025, in Niceville, FL. Charles was preceded in death by his father, William "Douglas" Evans.

He leaves to cherish fond memories, his loving mother, Lucille Evans, his beloved wife, Shirley Evans, and their children: Farrah Evans, Kristin Stack (Torrie), and Keith Evans. He was a proud and loving grandfather to Darien "Tre" Carroll, Arianna Shears, Keyshawn Evans, and Kahlil Stack. Charles also leaves behind his cherished grand pups, Louis and Koda, as well as his devoted sisters: Grace Browne, Fannie "Diane" Evans, Pauline Evans, and Cynthia Evans (Nick). He is lovingly remembered by his Aunt Mozelle Johnson; cousins Clyde and Wanda Evans; and longtime friends Jeta and Loretha "Belle" Thomas and a host of nieces, nephews and cousins.

Miss Me, But Let Me Go

Miss me but let me go, when I come

to the end of the road,

and the sun has set for me,

I want no rites in a gloom-filled room.

Why cry for a soul set free

Miss me a little but not too long,

and not with your head bowed low,

remember the love we once shared,

Miss me, but let me go.

For this is a journey that we all must take,

 and each must go alone.

It’s all a part of the Master’s plan,

a step on the road to home.

When you are lonely and sick at heart,

go to the friends we know

 and bury your sorrows

in doing good deeds.

Miss me, but let me go.
