OBITUARY
Marshall Irving Trent was born September 26, 1955, in Cumberland County, VA to the late Watt Phillip and Beulah Mae Booker Trent.
At an early age, Marshall accepted Christ and was baptized at the Reed Rock Baptist Church in Amelia, VA, where he was a devoted member who served as the Chairman of the Trustee Ministry and Finance Director. He also dedicated his time to singing in the male choir and participating in the Youth Ministry. He had a very giving spirit, and helped to finance the college educations of several students, and he supported many families in need within his community.
He attended Virginia Union University in Richmond, VA, where he obtained an Associate's Degree in Technology. His attention to details and his organizational skills were an asset to his career, which began in 1978 at Virginia Electric and Power Company (VEPCO), now known as Dominion Energy, he worked for 41 years until his retirement in May of 2019 as a Senior Programmer Analyst.
He married his love Bonnie Ragsdale Trent in 1985 and celebrated on June 22nd, 40 years of marriage. They lived in Glen Allen, VA, and from their union, two children were born, Afton and Aaron. A happy and very close family, they loved to spend time with each other hosting family gatherings, having game nights, going on vacations together.
Marshall enjoyed watching women's tennis, taking photos of weddings and family events, making playlists of southern soul music, Motown, and Rhythm and Blues. He loved making people laugh by telling jokes, and in his retirement, he spent much of his time working in the community and helping his daughter with her garden and chickens.
He was preceded in death by his parents and one sister, Rev Romaine Holcomb. Marshall leaves to cherish his memories: his devoted wife, Bonnie; his children Afton and Aaron; his siblings Catherine Johnson, Hazell (Gloria), Alfred (Bridgette), and Velma Mayo, brother-in-law Chris Holcomb, sisters-in-law Gertrude Ferrell (James), Carolyn Ragsdale, Joyce Walker, Barbara Richardson (Kelvin), Phyllis Drumwright (Clyde), and a host of nieces, nephews.
A Celebration of Life
You can shed tears that he is gone
Or you can smile because he has lived
You can close your eyes and pray that he will come back
Or you can open your eyes and see all that he has left
Your heart can be empty because you can't see him
Or you can be full of the love that you shared
You can turn your back on tomorrow and live yesterday
Or you can be happy for tomorrow because of yesterday
You can remember him and only that he is gone
Or you can cherish his memory and let it live on
You can cry and close your mind, be empty and turn your back
Or you can do what he would want: smile, open your eyes, love and go on.
Celebrate His Life
If I should go tomorrow
It would never be goodbye,
For I have left my heart with you,
So don't you ever cry.
The love that's deep within me,
Shall reach you from the stars,
You'll feel it from the heavens,
And it will heal the scars.
