Obituary
Caroline Virginia Langhorne was born in Cumberland, Virginia on May 17,1947 to Rex and Annie Trent Langhorne. She was the seventh child of thirteen and was reared in a loving Christian home.
She was educated in the Cumberland County Public School system and attended Luther P. Jackson School. At an early age Caroline accepted Christ as her personal Savior and was baptized into the fellowship of Rocky Mount Baptist Church. She was a faithful member until her health began to fail.
She was affectionally known by her family as "Zelle and BooJack." Caroline was a beloved daughter, sister, spouse, mother, aunt, and friend. She lived a life full of kindness, generosity, and quiet strength. Known for her warm smile, infectious laugh, unwavering spirit, oh and let's not forget, her stylish and classy sense of fashion. Caroline and her precious daughter, whom she nicknamed "Kool-Aid" would shop for hours to achieve the latest look in fashion. From the most sophisticated and fashionable outfits to the laid hair style. Caroline loved outings on the weekends with "Kool-Aid," the two of them had an unbreakable bond.
Caroline dedicated her life to several long-term jobs, two in particular, The Craddock Terry shoe factory where she worked seventeen years and Cumberland County Public Schools where she was affectionately known as "Auntie" to most of the students. She retired from the school system after twenty years of service.
Caroline grew up in a close-knit family and loved and found joy in family gatherings.
She was very passionate about her siblings and family. She didn't have any grandchildren of her own, so she became a grandmother to many of her nieces and nephews. Caroline made herself available to help her family in many capacities. She would occasionally babysit if needed. She especially loved greeting her nieces and nephews when they returned home from school at the end of the day. During the summer months, she loved shopping and going out for drives with her nieces.
She gained her heavenly wings at Farmville Health and Rehabilitation Center on May 15, 2025. She was preceded in death by her parents, sister Loretha Johnson; two brothers, Harvey and Frank Langhorne.
Caroline leaves to cherish fond memories, her devoted husband of 58 years Larry Lee Crump; devoted daughter Carolyn Crump and bonus daughter, Maxine Langhorne Lavallis (Lynn) of Fayetteville, NC; seven brothers, Robert Langhorne (Delores) of Cumberland, VA, William Langhorne (Rosa) of Farmville, VA, Eddie Langhorne, Louis Langhorne (Linda), Reginald Langhorne (Laura), Taylor Langhorne (Alice), of Cumberland, VA, and Floyd Langhorne (Barbara) of Farmville VA; two sisters, Sadie Everett of Richmond, VA and Addie Trent of Cumberland, VA; three sisters-in-law, Shirley Langhorne of Cumberland, VA, Catherine Langhorne of Baltimore, Maryland and Marie Fleming of Richmond, VA; a host of nieces, nephews, great nieces and nephews; devoted nieces, Tiffany Langhorne and Shamonica Dimmie (Robbie); great niece Ja'Mya Smith, devoted caregiver and sister-in-law, Laura Langhorne; as well as two devoted friends, Kathleen Hubbard, and Geraldine Jones.
Though Caroline is no longer with us, her spirit, love, and legacy will continue to inspire all those whose lives she touched.
May she rest peacefully with God.
Mom
You held my hand when I was small
You caught me when I fell
The shero of my childhood
And of latter years as well.
Every time I think of you
My heart just fills with pride,
And though I will always miss you, Mom
I know you're by my side.
In laughter and in sorrow
And sunshine and in rain,
I know you're watching over me
Until we meet again.
Love You, Carolyn "Kool-Aid" Crump, Daughter
