Obituary of Lottie Langhorne Johnson

Please share a memory of Lottie to include in a keepsake book for family and friends.
Obituary Lottie Elizabeth Foster was born to Richard Edward Foster, Sr., and Emily Logan Foster in Cumberland, Virginia on January 15, 1935. She was one of eight children reared in a Christian and loving home. Lottie grew up in a close-knit family. Lottie went to Cumberland Training School and later went back to school and graduated with her GED. Lottie accepted Jesus Christ as her personal Savior at an early age and was baptized into the fellowship of Rocky Mount Baptist Church. She was a faithful member who participated in church activities until her health began to fail. Lottie married the love of her life Abraham Lincoln Langhorne in 1953 and from this union six children were born. She was a homemaker and stayed home and raised her six children, Abraham Jr, Doris, Vanessa, Sharon, Jerry and Emily. Lottie decided to go into the workforce after the passing of her husband in the 1980's and she landed a job at the Cumberland High School. She worked in the schools' cafeteria for 30 years and drove the school bus over 35 years until she retired. In 1988, Lottie was blessed once again with a 2nd husband, Douglas Johnson, until his passing in 2016. Lottie loved her family – she was a devoted mother and grandmother. She enjoyed gardening and taking care of her flowers, especially her red roses. She also fished, hunted, and cooked different recipes, such as her favorite sweet potato pie and green beans, which she loved preparing for church. On Saturday morning, at her home on May 10, 2025, our mother, grandmother, sister, and aunt peacefully gained her wings to go home to be with the Lord. She is preceded in death by her first husband, Abraham Lincoln Langhorne, Sr; son, Abraham Lincoln Langhorne, Jr; two brothers, Jacob Foster and Richard Foster, Sr; four sisters, Mary Lou Atkins, Annie Bee Trent, Dorothy Thomas and Katherine Motley; and her second husband, Douglas Johnson. She leaves to cherish fond memories: children, Doris E. Langhorne, Vanessa Langhorne, Sharon Langhorne, Jerry Langhorne (Darlene), Emily Langhorne; five grandchildren, Whitney Langhorne, Quentin Langhorne, Christopher Smith, Armari Trent and Janaia Trent; four great grandchildren, Kylie Jennings, Kyon Jennings, Jordyn Langhorne and Josiah Langhorne; brother, Junius Foster (Lucille); bonus children; Herman Johnson (Barbara), Robert Johnson (Jessie); Stanley Johnson and Mary Johnson; nieces, nephews, and a host of other relatives and friends. She will be missed by her family and friends. WHEN THE TEARS FALL When tears fall, they fall like rain, Each drop a whisper of love and pain. They speak of moments, soft and true, Of laughter share, and all we knew. You gave your heart, your strength, your care, In every room your love was there. You lived for us, with open hands, A life poured out, a soul that stands. You held us close through every storm, Your faith in God our daily warm. With gentle prayers and steadfast grace, You led us straight to His embrace. You taught us how to kneel and pray, To seek God's light in darkened day. You showed us faith that doesn't fade, In every sacrifice you made. When tears fall, they fall with hope, For now in Christ's great arms you cope. No more pain, no earthly strife, Just endless joy, eternal life. God saw your heart, your work complete, And welcomed you with love so sweet. A crown of glory now you wear, No more burdens left to bear. So though we grieve, we do not fear, Your spirit still is ever near. And when we cry or feel alone, We'll hear your voice in Heaven's tone. When tears fall, they rise again, As worship in the Lion's den. For even in this mournful place, We stand wrapped in amazing grace. You loved us with a sacred fire, But God's love lifted you higher. And when our journey finds its end, We'll meet you there, our mother, friend. ACKNOWLEDGMENTS The family wishes to take this opportunity to thank all our friends and family who extended love and support during our time of bereavement. It was your acts of love, thoughtfulness, compassion, encouragement, and prayers that helped us through this period of deep sorrow. May God bless you and his love be yours to share.
