Obituary of George Edward Langhorne

Please share a memory of George to include in a keepsake book for family and friends.
George Edward Langhorne was born on March 23, 1957, to Richard Langhorne and Susie Epps Langhorne and was the fourth of six siblings that was reared in a loving Christian home. Early in life George accepted Christ as his Lord and Savior. He was baptized and joined the Rocky Mount Baptist Church where his membership remained until his passing. George attended Cumberland County Public schools in Cumberland County where he graduated. While in school George worked for one of the county grocery stores, Gosey, and after graduation he sought and gained employment that offered more benefits. At Henrico Doctors Hospital, he served as an engineer for thirty-five years until his retirement. Later in life George met the love of his life Mary Harris and asked her to marry him and from this union they had three children. George was a loving husband, father, brother, uncle, and grandfather. Our hearts are saddened over his passing, but we thank God for the time we had with him and all the love he gave us as a family. He was a humble man, kind, loyal, and ready to help anyone in need. He was soft-hearted, cheerful, and loved being around his family and friends. His home away from home was the Country Store from which he will be forever missed by those who knew and loved him. On Monday, March 17, 2025, George departed this life at Johnston Willis Hospital to rest in the arms of his Lord and Savior. He is preceded in death by his parents; three nephews, Corey Pervall, Jamar Scruggs, and DeCarlos Langhorne. He leaves to cherish loving and sweet memories; wife, Mary Harris Langhorne; two sons, Derrick and Michael Langhorne; daughter, Octavia Langhorne (Anthony); six grandchildren, Talia Brooks, Tre'onna Henderson, Trevon Henderson, Omoriah Smith, Anthony Smith and Josiah Merritt; two bonus grandchildren, Adrian Orange and Malikai Allen; sister, Maple Pervall; four brothers, Walter Langhorne, Lester Langhorne, Wayne Langhorne and Charles Langhorne; aunt, Nora Emma Ricks; three bonus sisters, Phyliss Anderson, Lelia Lilly and Dossie Davis; bonus brother, James Johnson, Jr.; mother-in-law, Marion Phelps; two sisters-in-law, Marion Simmons (David), and Easter Harris; a host of other nephews, one devoted Charles Trent (Bubby), nieces, cousins, two devoted first cousins, Bruce Epps and Douglas Langhorne; devoted uncle-in-law, Albert Trent, and friends. I Made It Home Family, I just wanted to let you know that I made it home. The journey wasn't an easy one, but it didn't take too long Everything is so pretty here, so white, so fresh and new. I wish that you all could close your eyes and that you could see it too. Please try not to be sad for me. Try to understand God is taking care of me… I'm in the shelter of his hands. Here there is no sadness, no sorrow, and no pain. Here there is no crying, and I'll never hurt again. Here it is so peaceful when all the angels sing. I really have to go for now… I've just got to try my wings. Acknowledgements The family wishes to express their sincere gratitude to all those who have supported us with prayers, cards, texts, phone calls or just stopping by during our time of bereavement. May God Bless you and His love be yours to share.
