Helen Jones Obituary

The gates of heaven have opened and majestically permitted entrance for Helen Elizabeth Jones on Tuesday, March 2, 2022. The daughter of Watt Lee and Lottie Johnson, Helen was born on April 2, 1928 in Cumberland, Virginia. She was reared and lived her life's entirety in Cumberland County. She attended schools in the Cumberland County school system. At an early age she joined Rocky Mount Baptist Church where she attended regularly until her health did not allow it. She remained a faithful member of the senior choir. On May 14, 1946, Helen was joined in holy matrimony to Philemond R. Jones and from this union, they were blessed with two children.

While Helen's earthly body is no longer with us, she shall be remembered and treasured for her love of flowers, which she watched and nourished as they gracefully bloomed. She also mastered the art of cooking, which she often shared with family. One could follow the aroma of chicken frying or pie baking. Helen loved people and sharing the word of the Lord with others. Though her sight often failed her, she would repeat the Lord's prayer several times during the day. When her eyesight allowed, one would often find the Bible opened and scripture highlighted.

God chose March 2, 2022 as the date his servant would join him. To keep the warmth of her smile and voice of wisdom uplifted into the next generation are: Cynthia M. Booker, granddaughter; devoted nephews and nieces, Roger Jackson, Jr. (Deborah), Mary Edmonds (George), Shaunita Branch (Morven), Annie Trent (Timothy) and a loving caregiver, Maria Baker. Helen has a host of nieces, nephews, great nieces and nephews' cousins and multitude of relatives and friends who loved her dearly.

Aunt Helen lived a long life locked in God's arms. The chimes of mortal life rang and the angel of mercy gracefully encompassed her fragile body and escorted her into eternal rest. She was preceded in death by: husband, Philemond R. Jones; son, Richard R. Jones; daughter, Leutrecia E. Booker and parents, Watt Lee and Lottie Johnson.

"Don't Cry for Me"

Don't cry for me, I will be okay.

Heaven is my home now, and this is where I'll stay.

Don't cry for me. I'm where I belong.

I want you to be happy and try to stay strong.

Don't cry for me. It was just my time,

But I will see you someday on the other side.

Don't cry for me. I am not alone.

The angels are with me to welcome me home.

Don't cry for me, for I have no fear.

All my pain is gone, and Jesus took my tears.

Don't cry for me. This is not the end.

I'll be waiting here for you when we meet again.
