Obituary of Rosa Virginia Jackson

Please share a memory of Rosa to include in a keepsake book for family and friends.
Rosa Virginia Jackson was a loving mother, grandmother, great-grandmother, and friend who will be deeply missed by all whom had the pleasure of knowing her. She departed this life Friday, October 20, 2017 in the comfort of her home. Rosa was born April 28, 1940 to the late Hildred and Annie May Royall. She was reared in Powhatan, Virginia where she attended Pocahontas High School and was a graduate of the Class of 1959. Rosa accepted the Lord and was baptized at an early age at Little Zion Baptist Church in Powhatan, Virginia. She later became a member of the Second Union Baptist Church in Goochland, Virginia in June 2001. During her time at Second Union, Rosa served as an usher and was a member of the D.L. Trent Choir which she truly enjoyed. She was also active in the hospitality and women's ministries. Rosa was married to Walter James Jackson, Sr. From this union, five children were born. Her husband preceded her in death. Rosa enjoyed working in customer service and was employed in her early years at May's Supermarket. She was later employed at Martin's (Ukrop's) Supermarket from which she retired in 2014 after many years of service. Rosa loved cooking for her family and friends; her most memorable dishes are potato salad, macaroni and cheese, string beans, homemade rolls, and sweet potato pie. She also enjoyed spending time with family and friends. Rosa fellowshipped with a group of special friends known as the "Golden Girls" and she was an active member of the Senior Connection of Powhatan. She leaves many to cherish her memory: five children, Walter Jackson, Jr. (Mechelle), James Jackson (Charlotte), Carolyn Jackson (Wayne), Calvin Jackson (Sonya), and Gail Ferguson (Keith); eight grandchildren, Jennifer Goff, Ta'Lisha Delamar, Shamá Miles, Jasmine Jackson, James Jackson, Jr., RaShanda Cheatham, Jordan Jackson, and Naveah Ferguson; five great-grandchildren, Xavier Brown, McKenzie Brown, Elijah Bolden, Malachi Bolden, and Kilan Eldridge; two sisters, Anne Jackson and Elaine James; one brother, Linwood Jackson; one aunt, Mary A. Royall; five sisters-in-law, Maude Britt, Catherine Jackson, Diane Jackson, Fannie Robinson, and Mahalia Turner; three brothersin-law, Arthur Jackson, Lawrence Jackson, and Joe Taylor; and a host of nieces, nephews, and cousins. "We did not know that morning what sorrow that day would bring. When a heart of gold stopped beating and could not do anything. God said, "You are getting tired" and the cure was not to be. So He put his arms around you and whispered, "Come to Me." It broke our hearts to lose you but you did not go alone for part of us went with you the day God called you home." ~The Family
