Obituary of Queen E. Howell

Please share a memory of Queen to include in a keepsake book for family and friends.
Mom was born Queen Esther Johnson to the late Joseph Johnson and Mary Mitchell Johnson in Halifax, North Carolina. She was a member of the Good Shepherd Baptist Church in Richmond, Virginia. She attended Armstrong high School where she was a majorette. In 1956, she was married to Waverly A. Howell. Together, they had three children. She was employed by the United States Postal Service until 1991 when she took early retirement to care for her new grandchild. She was a devoted wife of 60 years, a loving mother, and a doting grandmother. She cared for her mother, who suffered with Alzheimer's disease, until she died. She also cared for her son who died from cancer only four, short months ago. Mom's Sunday dinners were a staple in our family. Everyone knew that you could always get a good, home-cooked meal at Queen's. She loved us and gave her all to us. We will miss our mom, wife, grandmother, who always made us feel safe, loved, and cared for. Queen leaves to cherish her memory: her husband, Waverly Howell; a devoted son, William Howell; a daughter, Carla H. Smith (George); granddaughters, Sierra and Cameryn Smith; her aunt, Donte Mitchell; uncles, Wayne and Carl Mitchell; and a host of other family and friends.
