Obituary of George Taylor

Please share a memory of George to include in a keepsake book for family and friends.
George Taylor was born on December 29, 1928 in Cumberland, Virginia and passed away at home peacefully on Sunday, August 9, 2015. He was educated in the Cumberland County Public School System and was a retired construction worker. He loved to visit his children who live in various states, as well as go on family trips and outings. In 1947, George and Marion Sledge became one when they were united in marriage. To this couple five daughters were born, Joyce Arnetha, Marjorie Ann, Carolyn Jean, Sandra Denise and Bertha Theresa. He was a devoted husband and father. He was a baptized member of the Rocky Mount Baptist Church until the Holy Spirit and his love for Jesus led him to the truth about the fourth commandment—"Remember the Sabbath Day to keep it holy—" and then he joined the Farmville Seventh-Day Adventist Church. He was an active member and served as a deacon. George was preceded in death by parents, Solomon and Maria Brooks and sister, Mary Atkins. He is survived by his wife, Marion L. Taylor , his daughters, Joyce Smithey, Marjorie (Jessie) Harney, Carolyn Waddy, Sandra (Johnny) Gordon, and Berth (Robert) Walker.; six grandchildren, Daryl (Crystal) Harney, Charisse Jones, DeNina Hopkins, Justin (Nukeya) Walker, Kristen Walker and Taylor Gordon; 13 great grandchildren; three great great grandchildren; nephews, Junius (Sharon) Atkins, Waverly (Cheryl) Atkins and Vincent (Andrea) Atkins; nieces, Rose (Clifford) Stokley, Edna Atkins and Sarah Atkins; along with many cousins, one devoted, Mary A. Johnson whom he thought of as one of his own and friends. George Taylor's family, friends and church family were his life. He took such joy in the people around him and especially appreciated the love and fellowship of family and friends. He was a kind, loving and considerate person. He was always willing to help whenever needed. On this day in loving memory of him, we the family of our departed love one, look forward to the future and we also look back to the past remembering the wonderful memories which we dearly cherish. We have hope that we will meet again on Resurrection Day. As he always said, " If I don't see you all anymore, we have been together!" We truly had wonderful times together! He loved his wife and girls! Whether you call him "George", "Grandpa", " Grand Daddy", " Grandpa George", Papa George", "Mr. Taylor" or " Clark" , you knew you could call him trustworthy, reliable, and a man of his word. He will always be loved and greatly missed.
