Franklin French Childress, a son of the late Al and Daisy Hatcher Childress was born on July 1, 1952 in Cumberland, Virginia. "Mike" or " Uncle Mike" as he was affectionately known to many, attended Cumberland County Public Schools. He was baptized at an early age at Mt. Olive Baptist Church in Cumberland, Virginia. He worked several jobs during his life. Mike was a friendly, affectionate, and generous person. Mike loved to fish, cut grass, and to "cut a step". He had a special bond with his family and friends. On July 14, 2015, Mike departed his life at the University of Virginia hospital in Charlottesville, Virginia. He was preceded in death by three brothers, Ashby "Mule" Childress, Jerome "Sack" Childress and Ulysses "Ice Cold" Childress and one granddaughter, Ebony Harris. He leaves to cherish many memories to his wife of forty-four years, Mary "Frances"; one son, Michael Wade, one daughter, Tracy Harris; one step-son, Travis Childress; two grandchildren who knew him as "Poppie" Taven Harris and Traniyah Childress, two brothers, Junius Childress (Gracie) of Cumberland, Va and Jerry Childress (Leslie) of Buckingham; six sisters-in-law, Katie Childress, Helen Childress, Dora Harris and Patricia Harris of Dillwyn, VA, Ernestine Anderson of Scottsville, VA and Gertrude Clarke (Michael) of Richmond, VA; four brothers –in –law, Leslie Harris of New Haven, CT, Willie Harris of Dillwyn, VA Samuel Harris (Gracie) of Cumberland, VA and Curtis Harris of Richmond, VA; uncle, Reuben Hatcher (Florence) of Richmond, VA; like a sister, Darcey Harvey, a host of nieces, nephews, other family members and friends, devoted friends, Mark Montgomery, Earl Boatwright, James "Tiny" Reed and Ethel Scruggs.
