Obituary of James August Bell

Deacon James August Bell, a son of the late Joel Bell and Josephine Howell Bell was born March 26, 1925, in Powhatan County, Virginia. He was the fourth born of six children. Deacon Bell accepted Christ at an early age and was a lifelong member of Mt. Zion Baptist Church. He was a regular attendee of Sunday School and Church Services and was later ordained a deacon. An office he was honored and very proud to hold. He was also a member of the Willing Workers Organization. As a boy Deacon Bell attended Powhatan Virginia's Mohemenco School. As an adult, he worked for the Virginia State Police Department for 20 years in the House Keeping Department. He retired in 1987. Deacon Bell was an unobtrusive, quiet man. His life revolved around his family, church activities, and in later life, socializing with fellow seniors at Powhatan's Senior Citizen Club. At the age of 90, Deacon James Bell passed away peacefully, at the Envoy at the Meadows, long term care facility, Goochland, VA, on Monday, July 13, 2015. Deacon Bell is survived and loved by: his sister, Mable Gilliam; brother, Wallace Bell; sister-in-law, Audrey Juanita Bell; a devoted nephew, George "Edward" Booker; and a host of nieces, nephews, grand-nephews, in-laws, cousins, and friends.
