Obituary of Sallie Elizabeth Jackson

Sallie E. Jackson was born November 18, 1937 in Cumberland, Virginia to Porter Jones and Blanch Sims Jones. She attended in Cumberland County Public Schools. At an early age she became a member of the Rocky Mount Baptist Church where her membership remained. In 1954 Sallie joined in wedlock to Roger Jackson, Sr. From that union 5 children were born. Sallie lived in and worked in Cumberland all of her life. She will be remembered for her soft demeanor, her gentleness, her smile, crazy laugh, her love for pocketbooks & keys and her love for everyone. To her grandchildren and great- grandchildren she was affectionately known as "grandma", "grannie", "gangan" and "nannan". On Friday, May 8, 2015 surrounded by her family and friends Sallie claimed her angelic wings and peacefully slipped away. She was preceded in death by her parents, husband, two brothers, Philemond and Leake Jones and her best of best buddy her nephew, Richard Jones. She leaves to carry her joy of life and to treasurer her memories; five children, Shirley Royal (Elwood), Roger Jackson, Jr. (Deborah), Franklin Jackson (Pamela), Sarah Dickerson (John) and Harrison Jackson; 15 grandchildren; 24 great-grandchildren; two sisters, Ruth Epps and Bibb Trent; one sister-in-law, Helen Jones; along with a host of nieces, nephews, cousins and friends.
