Obituary of Earl Delaney Urquhart

On June 8, 1934, Earl Delaney Urquhart was born to the late Whit and Mabel Urquhart in Sussex County, Virginia. He was the second of three sons. Earl received his education in Sussex County, Virginia, the United States Army and earned a baccalaureate degree at Virginia State University. Earl continued his education after retiring from the Army earning additional degrees in business and accounting. In 1958, Earl married Hazel Norvell of Cumberland County, Virginia. For the first few years of their marriage, Hazel and Earl lived abroad in Europe. They were blessed with three children, Carla, Michael and Jennifer. At an early age, Earl received his Christian upbringing at Wilborne Baptist Church, Waverly, Virginia. Later, while serving in the military, he was active in the religious community wherever he was stationed. He became an active member of Pleasant View Baptist Church when he moved to Cumberland County, but 3100 remained a member of Wilborne Baptist Church. Earl later became a member of Pleasant View Baptist Church where he served as Trustee. Earl joined the United States Army in 1956. He served our nation with honor in the Army for 26 years, completing two tours of duty in Vietnam, and achieving the rank of Command Sergeant Major. He was a paratrooper with the 32nd Airborne and 10Ist Airborne. Upon his retirement from the Army, he worked in public service, first with the United States Department of Agriculture, and later with the Department of the Army where he worked for 17 years in the accounting in finance, After retiring from public service, Earl worked at a tax preparer and served as a volunteer in several community organizations. On Friday, December 11, 2009, at Hunter Holmes McGuire Veterans Administration Medical Center, Richmond. Virginia, the Lord in His infinite wisdom called Earl from labor to rest. Earl leaves to cherish his memory his devoted wife, Hazel; his children, Carla Urquhart of Alexandria, Virginia, and Michael Urquhart (Colleen) of Tucson, Arizona; a grandson, Ian, also of Tucson; a brother, George Urquhart (Maxine) of Waverly, Virginia; three uncles, Woodrow Jackson of Petersburg, Virginia; William (Billy) Urquhart of California; John Urquhart of New York; two nephews, Lorenzo Urquhart (Diane), of Richmond, Virginia; Jeffrey Urquhart (Cynthia) of Richmond, Virginia; one niece, Glenda Spain of Richmond, Virginia; and many great nieces and nephews and cousins, in-laws, and friends. A brother, Graham Urquhart (Willnette) of Richmond, Virginia, was called to rest on December 12,2009
